John Wesley Powell Historic Marker Hike

March 25, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$17

pipe-spring-national-monument

Join us as we celebrate Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month as we hike up to the top of the Vermillion Cliffs above Pipe Spring to the site where Major John Wesley Powell placed a survey marker in his quest to map the last blank spot in the territory that was to become the lower 48 states.

The hike is about 2 miles in length (round trip) over a rugged, moderately strenuous route: please wear good hiking shoes, sunscreen, and pack plenty of water and snacks.

Admission to the monument is $7.00 per adult (ages 16 and older). Agency passes such as Annual, Senior, Military, and Access passes are honored and wave the admission fee. There is an additional $10.00 (per person) tribal access permit fee to the Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians as this route travels onto the reservation land. Agency passes do not apply to tribal fees.

Reservations are required.
